Wind Weighting in Rocket Launch Operations

When:  Sep 18, 2024 from 18:00 to 19:30 (ACST)
Associated with  Adelaide Section

The Adelaide Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is pleased to bring you a presentation on a key aspect of launch operations from two local experts.

Southern Launch, a South Australian space startup, has undertaken a number of launch campaigns, with recent success at their Koonibba Test Range. Successful launch campaigns require detailed analysis of the effects of wind on launch vehicles, the details of which are also of interest to the fields of hypersonics and aeronautics.

To discuss these matters, AIAA Adelaide is proud to bring you two of the talented folks at Southern Launch, being Lewis McCluskey and Nathan Drummond, who are Southern Launch's Range Operations Manager and Modelling, Simulation, and Analysis Lead, respectively. They shall present their experiences with this critical aspect of the launch process, from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

The presentation shall be held from 6pm in Lecture Theatre S111, Engineering South, on the University of Adelaide's North Terrace Campus, with tickets and map available at Eventbrite via https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/wind-weighting-in-rocket-launch-operations-tickets-1013586443337 . As a note, the gratis tier of events on Eventbrite caps the number of tickets at 25, though there are approximately 100 seats in the lecture theatre; in short, if this page says we've sold out, you can still be assured of a seat.
