2024 Student Project Presentations

When:  Nov 15, 2024 from 18:00 to 18:30 (ACDT)
Associated with  Adelaide Section

Each year the Adelaide Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics sponsors a few final year projects to support local university students. As part of this sponsorship we require that the students present their work to the Section and any members of the public who wish to join.

We therefore cordially invite you to join us from 6pm Adelaide time on the 15th of November in in Lecture Theatre S111, Engineering South, University of Adelaide North Terrace Campus.

The student groups presenting include:

  • Georgia Dallimore, Grace Gunner, Callie Hopwood, Fida Matin, Amber Pegoli
  • "Microspine Anchoring Mechanisms for Exploration of Small Celestial Bodies"
  • Microspines are anchoring mechanisms that improve mobility of robotic systems navigating extreme terrain, such as asteroid surfaces. This project advanced literature in space-simulant environmental testing of an additively manufactured microspine design, and successfully integrated arrays of this microspine into an omnidirectional robotic end effector for asteroid-simulant surface anchoring performance evaluation.

  • Joshua Mullins
  • “Small Satellite Design for Debris Impact Resilience”
  • This project looks at alterations that can be made to the design of small satellites for the purposes of increasing their resilience to physical debris impacts. This project quantifies and models the space debris issue and impact scenarios to lay out options for satellite protection.
