Abstract: The Exploration Company (TEC) is one of the fastest growing space exploration companies in the world. Founded in 2021, TEC is on a mission to build space vehicles for a collaborative future across nations. Today, TEC boasts a team of over 250 people with more than 25 different nationalities and has office locations in Germany, France, Italy and the USA. With over 70 open positions and many more planned in 2025, TEC continues to grow rapidly to achieve the ambitious targets. TEC is currently developing the Nyx family of vehicles, headlined by Nyx Earth. Nyx Earth is a reusable vehicle that will transport cargo (and in the long term, crew) to low Earth orbit (LEO), servicing the International Space Station (ISS) as it nears the end of its life and then the many private space stations that are planned. Nyx Moon will transport cargo to the lunar gateway or the surface of the moon and return to Earth. This talk will introduce TEC and some of the key developments currently being undertaken to make Nyx Earth and Nyx Moon a reality, with a particular focus on developments in propulsion.
About the speaker: Bhavraj (Bhav) Thethy is currently a Senior Test Development Engineer at The Exploration Company, where has been since June 2023. Bhav is part of the Propulsion Team and is responsible for the development of various in-house propulsion test facilities. Prior to joining TEC, Bhav worked as a Propulsion R&D Engineer at NextAero in Melbourne, Australia working on Australia's first commercially available cryogenic test stand. Bhav also completed a jointly supervised PhD between Monash University and the Technical University of Berlin, experimentally investigating various aspects of detonation engines.
