Hi WoAA members!  I'm the 2020 WoAA Chair, currently living in Fort Walton Beach, FL. I did my undergrad at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and am currently remotely finishing up my Master's degree from MIT in the Space Systems Lab. I'm starting my next Air Force assignment this summer as a developmental engineer helping test modifications on airplanes. I would love to connect with anyone in the area once we can see people again! Excited to help professional WoAA chapters get off the ground to help connect women in aerospace beyond college and tackle other huge challenges ahead. #WoAAWelcome

Hi everyone! I am the WoAA Secretary for 2020, and I currently live in Cambridge, MA. I did my undergrad at the University of Maryland, College Park, and I'm currently finishing my Master's at MIT. In the fall, I'll be continuing at MIT in the Space Systems Lab, and hopefully I will eventually complete my PhD. Once I'm back at school, I'd love to connect if you are in the Boston area! #WoAAWelcome

Hi everyone! I am the WoAA Vice-Chair for 2020, and I currently live in Stanford, CA. I did my undergraduate degree at Columbia University in NYC, and I'm currently in a PhD program at Stanford in the Biomimetic and Dexterous Manipulation Lab. For fun, I like the arts (painting, drawing, performing arts, you name it!) as well as thinking about ways technology can improve our everyday lives. Feel free to reach out to me if you would like to connect, especially if you are in the Bay Area! #WoAAWelcome

Hi WoAA! I am relatively new to AIAA and still exploring all it has to offer. I work at GE Aviation in Cincinnati, OH where my role is to support other engineers in advancing our technical and industry knowledge. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky and an am also an active member of SWE, and will be joining the SWE Senate this July. I'm curious to see what this group is doing and if there may be opportunities for collaboration between WoAA and SWE.

    Hi Bianca,

We would love to collaborate between WoAA and SWE! This group is focused on providing support, empowerment, technical development, and networking opportunities for gender minorities in the aerospace and aero-adjacent industries. We have many local chapters at college campuses across the nation, and are always looking for new ways to connect people. Some examples of our impact over the past year include the Diversity and Inclusion panel we organized at AIAA SciTech, an outreach exhibit at the International Aeronautical Congress, and a Women in NASA virtual panel.

In fact, there's something in our pipeline right now that might be good for collaboration! We're organizing a grad school vs. industry 101 panel for WoAA members, and we're looking for working professionals to talk about their experiences as a gender minority in the aerospace industry! If you or people you know would be interested, please let us know!

That's great! I can certainly help with some great connections to women working in Aviation and Aerospace. When is the planned date for the panel? Will it be virtual?

    Hi Bianca,

Thank you so much for reaching out! We may actually have enough panelists for this event (which will be held virtually later in May), but we are also looking for panelists for a virtual event at AIAA Aviation, which is taking place June 15-19. The panel topic is below:

Working with a multi-generational workforce: With a relatively-established industry, it's important to know how to integrate into the workforce as a young/new employee. In this panel discussion, we will explore how to develop the skills needed to integrate with
a multigenerational workforce and how to embrace generational gaps once in the workforce.

If you or any of your colleagues might be interested in serving on this panel, we'd really appreciate your input! We can be reached on here or over email at woaa.national@gmail.com.

    Thank you!

Hey everyone! I'm the 2020 Expansion subcommittee chair, and currently finishing up my 3rd year as an undergraduate student studying aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech. You can typically find me in Atlanta, but this summer I'll be in Michigan doing a my internship for Boeing virtually. Please feel free to reach out, even just to say hi! I'm excited to help new chapters become a part of WoAA as well as support and connect current chapters. I love the community that WoAA has already managed to create between people that I would otherwise not had met, so I can't wait to meet and connect with everyone! #WoAAWelcome

    Hi Richard,

Thank you so much for joining WoAA and our mission; we really appreciate all the support! Julie Duetsch is our TAD liaison to ATIO, and Matt Marcus is the chair of our Technical Development subcommittee. They should be posting a follow-up through Engage with you in the near future!

Hi everyone! My name is Katherine Fink and I am a current undergrad (studying Aerospace Engineering) at the University of Notre Dame, where I am also the president of our AIAA student chapter. I am hoping to be able to expand our chapter's support network and provide useful opportunities and experiences to our members. We don't have a huge aerospace program, so it may be hard to stand up a separate WoAA chapter at ND, but I would love to collaborate with you all!

Hello everyone! My name is Gökçin Çınar and I am a research faculty at Aerospace Systems Design Lab at Georgia Tech. I work on aircraft systems design and integration with a strong focus on electric aircraft. I got my MSc and PhD degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech. I'm originally from Turkey. I participate in various STEM outreach activities especially for younger females in Turkey, including a small but successful Youtube channel where I create STEM related content. I would like to learn more about WoAA and take a part in promoting STEM to a larger audience. I already found and read your flier here but am hoping to learn more about your activities and how I can help!

Hi Gökçin, thank you for reaching out and welcome to the WoAA community! We are primarily run by students and young professionals, and our activities include things like starting local collegiate chapters, providing technical development to our members, providing professional development events, outreach to K-12, supporting our members with scholarships and other opportunities, and educating the public on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We would love to talk to you about getting involved -- we can message you :) If you are still at Georgia Tech or local to the area, we actually have a strong WoAA collegiate chapter there if that's a starting point you're interested in.

Hello WoAA! I'm looking forward to connecting with this community, exploring more outreach activities, and connecting my underrepresented students with more opportunities to stay in STEM and excel in their careers.

I'm on the faculty at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. My research area is formal methods. My primary appointment is in aerospace engineering but I also work with a lot of students in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and mathematics. I direct a large laboratory with (in addition to grad students) about 25-30 undergraduate researchers, at least half of whom are members of underrepresented groups.
