Lunch and Learn - Andreas Gross - Numerical Investigation of Low-Pressure Turbine Endwall Flows

Wind tunnel experiments and large-eddy simulations provide detailed insight into the unsteady flow physics of a linear low-pressure turbine cascade.  Low-pressure turbines drive the fan in high bypass jet engines such as those deployed on modern commercial passenger aircraft. The fan generates most of the thrust and a better understanding of the flow physics may point out opportunities for making jet engines more efficient and lighter.

Biography: : Dr. Gross is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at New Mexico State University. Dr. Gross received his Ph.D. from the University of Aachen in 2002. He is interested in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Direct Numerical Simulations, Large Eddy Simulations, Hybrid Turbulence Modeling, High-Performance Computing, Chemical Non-Equilibrium Flows, Flow Control, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and Renewable Energy.
