Serve as a Judge for AIAA K-12 Programs

Description:

We are actively recruiting judges for the full K-12 education program school year. Judges are needed for four unique programs, with judging periods running from September 2021 through May 2022. This opportunity will be updated throughout the year and applications will be reviewed on a running basis until all positions are filled. Details about the judging process and communication will begin 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the judging period.

1.  Classroom Grants

  • Description: AIAA awards grants of up to $500 to STEM K-12 educators for projects that will significantly influence and enhance student learning.
  • Application Period: 1 JUN - 31 AUG 2021
  • Judging Period: 3 SEPT - 19 SEPT 2021
  • Number of Judges Needed: 15-20
  • Time Commitment: 20-30 minutes per application, over the course of the Judging Period

2.  Kahn Scholarship

  • Description: AIAA awards four $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors enrolling in college or university with an aerospace and engineering focus.
  • Application Period: 1 SEPT - 30 NOV 2021
  • Judging Period: 5 DEC - 23 DEC 2021
  • Number of Judges Needed: 15-20
  • Time Commitment: 30-45 minutes per application, over the course of the Judging Period

3. Educator Achievement Award Nominations

  • Description: The AIAA Foundation and The Challenger Center honors five outstanding K-12 educators for their contributions to the continued study of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics within the classroom and beyond.
  • Application Period: 1 OCT 2021 - 31 JAN 2022
  • Judging Period: 4 FEB - 21 FEB 2022
  • Number of Judges Needed: 10-15
  • Time Commitment: 30-45 minutes per application, over the course of the Judging Period


4.  Design | Build | Launch Competition

  • Description: AIAA and Blue Origin invites high school students to develop creative research proposals in the fields of microgravity science or space technology, pairing the experiment with a public outreach plan to share the excitement of the field with others and to fly on the New Shepard rocket.
  • Application Period: 1 JAN - 1 APR 2022
  • Judging Period: 2 APR - 15 APR 2022
  • Number of Judges Needed: 10-12
  • Time Commitment: 30-45 minutes per application, over the course of the Judging Period
