Greater Huntsville Section

Please join the Greater Huntsville Section on April 17th for a talk about the importance of Hypersonics from Dr. John Schmissuer and Dr. Phil Kreth from the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI). This talk will give a brief introduction to Hypersonics and research areas of interest followed by an overview of relevant experimental capabilities for investigating Hypersonic flow phenomenon at UTSI. The talk will conclude with a discussion of doing business with UTSI for interested parties. The meeting will be held at the headquarters of CFD Research Corporation located at 6820 Mouqin Dr Huntsville, Alabama 35806. Refreshments will be served at 1700 with the talk starting at 1730.

Dr. Schmissuer has been the B.H. Goethert Professor at UTSI since 2014. He currently serves as UTSI's associate dean and deputy director. Before that he had a long and distinguished career working for the US Air Force in a wide variety of areas including being a program manager for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in aerothermodynamics and turbulence. John is an AIAA fellow and has served AIAA in many roles including being the deputy director for the Aerospace Sciences Group.

Dr. Phil Kreth is an associate professor at UTSI. He obtained his BS and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering from Florida State University in high-speed flow control. He joined UTSI in 2016. His research areas of interest include flow control/actuator development, aerothermodynamics, optical diagnostics, and shock wave/boundary layer interactions. He is an AIAA associate fellow and currently serves as chairman of the Tennessee Section.
