AIAA at Galaxy of Lights

When:  Dec 9, 2020 from 16:30 to 21:00 (CT)
Associated with  Greater Huntsville Section

Fellow members,

The holiday season is just around the corner and so is the Huntsville Botanical Gardens' (HBG) Galaxy of Lights. The Galaxy of Lights is a holiday lights extravaganza featuring larger-than-life animated light displays. This event is run completely by volunteers, with different organizations volunteering each evening. The display could not take place without the contributions of hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

The AIAA Greater Huntsville Section has volunteered to work this event for the past three years. We have always received a tremendous response to our volunteer call and continuously receive feedback about how much fun it is to socialize with family and other Aerospace professionals through this event.
We are excited to announce that the section will run the "Galaxy Driving Night" on Dec 9. We need volunteers to collect tickets, collect cash, process credit cards, control the traffic, count the revenue and vehicles, and perform various miscellaneous tasks.

To make this event a success, we need at least 20 volunteers from 4:30 pm - 9:00 pm. Family members and friends are also welcome to volunteer. The minimum age limit is 16 to volunteer. To make it easy on the volunteers we will split the evening's tasks into two shifts so that while one team is working the gate, the other group can network and socialize (please see COVID guidelines below). Several of the volunteer positions are entirely no-contact if you prefer to fulfill one of those roles.

This is a festive, family friendly event and many families volunteer together to help get into the holiday spirit. Based on the feedback from our past volunteers, we know that you will enjoy supporting the community while spreading holiday cheer through this iconic Huntsville event.

HBG provides a dedicated room for volunteers to gather between shifts. Volunteers are encouraged to bring snacks and dishes to share. We will make it a holiday potluck event while complying with COVID safety guidelines. HBG also provides soft drinks, reflective vests and hats to wear.

As an added incentive, after the gardens close to the public, the volunteers can drive through the gardens as many times as they like. This is the perfect opportunity to take pictures without worrying about keeping the traffic moving or being blinded by lights behind you.

The safety of our volunteers is our highest priority. We will follow the Garden guidelines (see below). In addition, AIAA GHS will provide face shields and disposable gloves for volunteers (please still bring your own mask with you that covers your mouth and nose).

Please RSVP to distribution@hsv-aiaa.org by Wednesday, Dec 2 if you can help us support this great cause.  Please provide the names, ages and relationships of your family members and friends who will be volunteering along with you. Additional details will be provided to volunteers as we get closer to the event.

Additional detail will be provided to volunteers as we get closer to the event. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

We look forward to your help in supporting this worthy event. Let's remind Huntsville why the Greater Huntsville Section is a generous member of our community.  You will be glad you did.
