Holiday season is around the corner. If you live in the Huntsville area you undoubtedly have heard about Huntsville Botanical Gardens' (HBG) Galaxy of Lights
of Lights is a holiday light extravaganza featuring larger-than-life animated light displays. Galaxy of Lights is a Huntsville tradition and the HBG's largest fundraiser of the year. You may not know that the event is run completely by volunteers and each evening, a different organization volunteers its time to help out. The display could not take place without the contributions of hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
AIAA Greater Huntsville Section has volunteered to work the event last two years. Both years, we got tremendous response to our volunteer call. Our volunteers had fun socializing and running the event.
We are excited to announce that the section will run the "Galaxy Driving Night" on Dec 11. We need volunteers to collect the tickets, collect cash, process credit cards, control the traffic, count the revenue and vehicles, and perform various miscellaneous tasks.
To make it easy on the volunteers we will split the evening's tasks into two shifts so that while one team is working the gate, the other group can network and socialize. HBG provides a dedicated room for volunteers to get together when they are not working the gate. Volunteers are encouraged to bring snacks and dishes to share. We will make it a holiday potluck event. HBG also provides soft drinks, reflective vests and hats to wear.
As an added incentive, after the gardens close to the public, the volunteers can drive through the gardens as many times as they like. This is the perfect opportunity to take pictures without worrying about keeping the traffic moving or being blinded by lights behind you.
To make this event a success, we need at least 20 volunteers to help out from 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm. Family members and guests are welcome. The minimum age limit is 16 to volunteer. This is a festive, family friendly event and many families volunteer together to help get in the holiday spirit. Based on our past participation we assure that it is a fun and easy way to support our community and spread holiday cheer.
Please RSVP to email@example.com by Wednesday, Dec 4 if you can help us support this great cause. Please provide the names, ages and relationships of your volunteers.
Additional detail will be provided to volunteers as we get closer to the event. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
We look forward to your help in supporting this worthy event. Let's remind Huntsville why the Greater Huntsville Section is a generous member of our community. You will be glad you did.
