Thank you for your continued support of the AIAA and participation as a member of the Greater New Orleans section. On March 20th, we mark the first day of spring as the Sun crosses the equator of the celestial sphere and enters the Northern Hemisphere. With the long days of spring and summer ahead, let us take a moment to review our section's upcoming activities and start a conversation on our organization's goal to promote excellence in the aerospace industry.

I am pleased to announce the formation of the Science Fair working group within our section. The focus of this working group will be to assemble a pool of professionals that are available to volunteer as judges for local science fairs. Educator Associates are also encouraged to join the working group and raise awareness of upcoming events. This year, GNO section members supported the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) at Tulane and the Mississippi Region VI Science and Engineering Fair. Please contact Larry de Quay or reply to this thread if you are available to support our section's science fair activities.

April 12th is the 58th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historical first crewed flight to orbit the Earth and the 38th anniversary of the first Space Shuttle mission. Yuri's night is the annual world space party celebrating these achievements. Please get in touch if you are interested in organizing an informal meet up for Yuri's night or would like to participate.

Our section will host former Lockheed Martin Space Systems Vice President and AIAA Senior Member Wanda Sigur as our next distinguished lecturer on May 24. Save the date, and look forward to an announcement with more information within the next few weeks. Please reach out if you are available to help organize our meeting or have contacts with other groups that can help to promote or co-sponsor this event.

A new AIAA membership option is available to aerospace professionals that have not previously joined the organization. The "e-Membership" offers 1 year of free access to AIAA's electronic resources including Aerospace America Online and the Engage Community. Please share the following link with your friends and colleagues: https://www.aiaa.org/emember/

The 2019 fiscal year for AIAA GNO ends on May 31st. I have created a short survey in order to determine the appropriate level of effort to expend towards conducting elections this year. Please provide your response by the end of May or contact me directly if you have additional feedback. The survey is available on our website and may be completed at the following link: https://www.strawpoll.me/17614770

GNO section is available to encourage the chartering of new student branches at accredited institutions in Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. Please contact Jace Boudreaux or respond to this thread if you are a student member or faculty and are interested in forming a new chapter. Additional information is available at the following link: https://www.aiaa.org/StudentBranches/

Our section needs additional officers and volunteers to support our events, conduct outreach activities, and provide leadership. Members with all levels of interest and availability are encouraged to participate. Funding is available to support new section activities. Please reply to this thread or contact me directly for more information.
