    What is it and why is it important?

    Dr. Dittmar will discuss national space policy – who makes it, why it is important, and how it impacts the development of national strategy, tactical planning, and government-industry activities and relationships. She will also address a global perspective and explore the relationships between U.S. space policy, international viewpoints, and national goals.

    Mary Lynne Dittmar, Ph.D.

    Dr. Mary Lynne Dittmar is Executive Vice President of Axiom Space, which is building the world's first commercial space station. There she oversees Axiom's activities pertaining to legislative and regulatory affairs as well as international relations. An internationally-known expert in human space exploration beginning with her work on the International Space Station, in 2015 she founded and served for over 5 years as President and CEO of the Coalition for Deep Space Exploration, an industry group supporting NASA's programs in deep space exploration and science.

    A recognized influencer of national space policy, Mary Lynne is a Fellow of the National Research Society Sigma Xi and Associate Fellow of the AIAA. She served from 2012-2014 on the Human Spaceflight Committee of the National Research Council and recently completed a 6-year appointment to the Space Studies Board at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Currently she serves on the U.S. National Space Council's Users' Advisory Group and the Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee (COMSTAC), where she advises the Federal Aviation Administration. Mary Lynne enjoys the outdoors near her home in North Carolina, and travels frequently to Washington, D.C. and to Axiom Space Headquarters in Houston, TX.
