Digitalization - the crucial advantage for the modern aerospace program

Aerospace development programs are challenged on almost every level imaginable and the global pandemic has further increased this complexity as all industries have been forced to rethink, reimage and reinvent how they develop and manufacture products, while ensuring the health and safety of their employees. The Aerospace and Defense industry, already struggling with executing product development, manufacturing and certification programs, while managing their global supply base, is now faced with the need to change the fundamental ways in which they do business, while working to maintain development programs and continue to be innovative to ensure the future success of their business.

Join Dale Tutt, VP of Aerospace & Defense at Siemens Digital Industries Software (DISW) as he examines the impact of the global pandemic and other challenges on Aerospace development programs, as well as the critical role of digitalization to increase productivity by providing the visibility needed to assess how specific requirements will impact downstream engineering, manufacturing and testing functions of a program.

Dale Tutt is the Vice President of Aerospace and Defense Industry, for Siemens Digital Industries Software. He is responsible for defining overall the overall Aerospace and Defense industry strategy for Siemens Digital Industries Software, driving specific industry requirements into software products and solutions, and leading the definition of industry specific market solutions for Aerospace and Defense customers.

Dale has over 30 years of experience in engineering design, development, and program leadership within the Aerospace industry. Prior to joining Siemens, Dale worked at The Spaceship Company, a sister company to Virgin Galactic, as the VP of Engineering and VP of Program Management, where he led the development and flight test of vehicles for commercial space tourism. While at The Spaceship Company he led the team on a successful flight test to space in December 2018.

Prior to working at The Spaceship Company, Dale spent 18 years at Cessna Aircraft / Textron Aviation in program and project management, systems engineering and integration, advanced design, autopilot integration, simulation development and other engineering roles. In one of his most recent roles at Cessna, he was the Chief Engineer and Program Director of the Scorpion Jet program, where he led a dynamic cross-functional engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing team to design, build and fly the Scorpion Jet prototype from design concept to first flight in 23 months – an approximate 50% reduction in cost and schedule compared to similar programs. Before leaving Textron Aviation, he was the Engineering Director for the Textron Aviation Defense programs, leading the engineering teams for the Scorpion jet, T-6 Texan II trainer, and AT-6 light attack aircraft.

Before joining Cessna, Dale worked as an engineer at Bombardier, Learjet, on the Lear 45 program, and General Dynamics Space System Division on the Atlas I, II and IIAS programs.

Dale has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and an MBA from Wichita State University with a concentration in Finance.
