Happy New Year from AIAA National Capital Section!
We are your new officers for 2022-2024, and over 2023 we're going to work to create a more engaging experience for all AIAA members in the region. There's lots of ways you can help; read on!

    Volunteer Opportunities
There are three different ways we'd like you to consider getting involved. Pick one, zero, three, whatever works! We appreciate all the help we can get as we work to re-energize the section.

    1. Science Fair Judging (coming up in March) - look for another email soon with more information on this opportunity for NCS members to help judge high school science fairs around the area. If you've never been a part of this, it's a truly inspirational outing
    2. Speakers/Tours for Student Branches - Our student branches at UMD, GWU, UVA, and CUA have resumed regular meetings and we'd like to offer them opportunities to hear from the distinguished professional members from around the area and/or take tours of aerospace facilities. We'll handle the logistics, we just need you! Please let us know if you're interested in helping with this new initiative.
    3. Join a Committee - We are establishing new committees on STEM/K-12, Student Branches/Young Professionals, Diversity & Inclusion, Honors & Awards. If you'd like to join a committee or learn more about what that would entail, please let us know.

    Chair's Corner, by David Brandt
Greetings to all NCSers from your newly elected Council of leaders. As your Chair, I'd like to offer my sincere thanks to these volunteers for stepping up to assist us in reinvigorating the AIAA's single largest Section. With more than 1,800 members, your National Capital Section includes a geographic area that includes not just Capitol Hill and 'official' Washington, but stretches from Pax River to Greenbelt, from Charlottesville to Sterling. We cover a large area, but that just means there's plenty of opportunities for us to have positive impact on our many communities – whether it is in technical, policy, or STEM outreach opportunities. Your Council, like many of you, are now getting wind under our sails after a long global pandemic lull. We encourage you to engage with your Section; consider ways you might individually or perhaps through your institutions and corporate connections work with us on the many opportunities to take flight you read about above. Your membership in AIAA isn't just about Aerospace America, or conferences and journals; I believe it is an opportunity to accept some responsibility and obligation to engage in your local community, to encourage new generations of aerospace workers, and to take pride in your accomplishments. Let us know if you'd be interested in helping your Section, or if we can answer any questions.
