Radio Check

Hello fellow North Texas AIAA members,

Has it really been a year since anything was posted here? I'm with L3Harris Advanced Systems & Technologies in Plano, and am going to start by checking to see if this forum is still operable.

How about a quick reply to see roughly how many of the 1,800+ members of this group are still active.

    Thanks,
    John

My email is dana.d.johnson@lmco.com (North Texas Section Treasurer)
James Sergeant is James.Sergeant@thespaceshipcompany.com (North Texas Section President)

Our section is very active, just  careful about 'forums' (and Covid)!

    Hi all,

My name is Imran Charania and I am new to AIAA. I am not currently in the industry but previously worked as a civilian for US Air Force and also in a startup that develops flight software for satellites and mission control software for satellite operations. Right now I am in enterprise software but would like to go back aerospace someday. I am interested to find out if there are any events (remote of course) currently scheduled for the North Texas Section.

    Hey Dana,

I'm at MFC trying to make a push for more involvement among our Grand Prairie employees, but it seems like there's been radio silence since covid hit. AIAA Atlanta and Las Vegas have been very active with webinars and newsletters. Do we have any online presence, newsletters, or events scheduled for North Texas members? Trying to get more people involved is hard when I can't point them to any activities.

Feel free to reach out to me if you want to talk about MFC's efforts to get more AIAA participation!

    Hi All:

This is Vinu Unnikrishnan from College of Engineering, West Texas A&M University. I was previously at the University of Alabama in the Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics Department (moved here Jan. 2019) and an active member of the Materials Technical Committee of AIAA. I have research interests in thermo-mechanical characterization of nano-composites and soft materials.

Looking forward to meeting all and stay safe.

    Hello all,

I am new to AIAA in the past year, so I am not sure if there have been frequent posts from the North Texas forum. This is the first time I am getting a message for it and I have been getting daily round-ups for notifications on forums, so it is probably not that. I would definitely be interested in getting this forum to be active again since I would get to see what my local aerospace community has to offer, in terms of webinars,  events and local insights on current events. In the post-COVID era, this would ideally be a great resource for in-person AIAA events as well.

    Thanks and stay safe everyone!

Ok...wouldn't this be the best way to stay in contact with everyone during the Covid period?

So tell us about the activities that have been going on. Is the section having any events?

As a recent transplant to North Texas after 17 years in the Southern California area (TRW/NG for 5 years, and Raytheon for 12 years), my knowledge of the North Texas A&D landscape is limited to my program engagements with local Raytheon facilities, subcontracts activity with suppliers like the LMCO Wind Tunnel, and my round of interviews last year (including LMCO Grand Prairie) that eventually brought me here.

I'm glad to see this thread stir up a little activity. My company is hosting a Virtual Career Fair next week, I believe. I'll try to post the details on a new thread. I'd love to see the other corporations in North Texas post theirs here as well.

Looking forward to keeping North Texas active.

    Very Best Regards,

Hello, I got your message.  I haven't been getting emails from this organization in a long time.  Maybe it's me in that I haven't gone out of my way to keep track of activities, but I stopped getting notices in the past year when I used to get them fairly regularly.

I get emails about forum activity, but all of it comes from the Open Forum...until your comment that is. I was active on the Open Forum a decent amount, but that dropped off since a lot of the Aerospace story blobs I have been reading didn't really inspire me to make anymore additional comments right now. Plus, I have some other pertinent professional obligations to attend to right now. Hopefully once next year starts I can start being more active again, at least in the forums.

In regard to our activity, I used to start getting newsletter/event emails from James Sergeant, but that seems to have dropped since COVID. I am not entirely sure if it is just me though. So if anyone else gets newsletters or emails from him about AIAA chapter events then please let me know.

    Howdy,

I am Michael I. Ibanez, President of the AIAA Student Chapter at the University of Texas - Arlington, post-graduate student, and engineer at BNSF Railway's UAS Department. Hope to see people continue to be active in this community! If anybody is interested to interact with students at the UTA local chapter don't hesitate to contact me. I have a very motivated student body looking to network.
