Greetings all,
I'm taking the liberty of sharing an announcement (see below) from my former employer - a NASA and DOD subcontractor - who holds annual, hands-on, solid rocket motor workshops in Casper, Wyoming.
Back in the mid-1990s, after I graduated from university, in parallel to the NASA SBIR Phase 1 (1995) and Phase 2 (1998), we used to manufacture our own composite propellant (using phase stabilised ammonium nitrate/magnesium metal powder/HTPB binder/HDI curing agent; created by Dr. Adolf Oberth, son of the rocket pioneer, Professor Hermann Oberth), fabricate our own motors, conduct static tests to confirm performance and after securing a NOTAM from the FAA, launch our own rockets from the Wyoming flatlands.
The course material includes book/software/video and was authored by my former employer and has been used by a number of prestigious academic institutions in the United States.
The hands-on experience is something I'll never forget so for undergraduates, graduates and budding rocket propulsion enthusiasts, I'd strongly recommend this course/workshop.
I've taken the liberty of attaching video of one static engine test as well as my 12ft tall/6" diameter "Golden Bengal" rocket. Please excuse the quality. It was filmed in VHS and converted to digital.
Best wishes,
Ab

Registration is open for our 2022 Solid Rocket Motor Design Classes this summer. Class dates are June 15-18, July 13-16, and September 14-17. During the class, you will learn how to design and build your own solid rocket motor. The class is a "hands-on" experience where you will design, build and test fire your solid rocket motor. Class registration is $249, which includes your lunch for all three and half days plus materials for the class. Seats are limited due to the "hands-on" nature of the class so don't wait until the last minute to sign up if you know you want to attend a class. You can register from the link below.
