Dear PGC TC members and friends,
I wanted to share with you some resource and a few events that may be of interest to some of you, and that would be good for us to support. I know I am repeating some of the information, but here you find key events of interest to our community.
PGC Sessions Summary
While thanking the SciTech TDC (John Bennewitz) and deputy TDC (Jason Burr) for a fantastic job at organizing the technical program for PGC, attached here please find (again, for the 3rd time now) the summary of the PGC sessions that will be at SciTech this year. Hopefully this will help navigate the meeting.
Session Chairing Training
If you are new to chairing a session to PGC, attached here you will find some training slides that summarize some of the practices AIAA has. (It is the one I sent last year, but it is still valid.) Please refer to meeting TDC (Bennewitz) or me if you have specific questions.
Highlighting Women in Aerospace 2025 (Monday at 9.30 am in Orlando Ballroom M)
I would like to encourage you to attend this Special Session on Monday, January 6, at 9:30am to 11:30am (Location: Orlando Ballroom M (AMT-02/PC-02/FD-04)). This is a special section highlighting excellence in aerospace by our women colleagues. This event was originally established by the AMT TC, but it is growing across multiple TCs. It is currently supported by AMT, PC and FD. The session will have 4 short talks followed by Q&A. Speakers are:
- Dr. Jacqueline H. Chen, Senior Scientist, Sandia National Laboratories
- Jessica "Jess" Reinert, Systems Engineer and Project Manager, NASA Glenn
- Dr. Debolina Dasgupta, Senior Research Scientist, Argonne National Laboratory
- Dr. Yiyang Sun, Assistant Professor, Syracuse University
Please encourage everyone in your groups to attend the session. For more information, please see attached flyer.
2024 Air Breathing Propulsion Award
The 2024 awardee, Prof. Zolti Spakovsky (MIT), will receive his award during the SciTech Awards Recognition Event on Monday at 5:30pm in the Windermere Ballroom. Please try to attend to support our 2024 winner.
2024 AIAA SciTech PGC Best Paper Award
I also want to point out that the awardees of the 2024 SciTech PGC Best Paper Award will be celebrated during the SciTech Awards Recognition Event on Monday at 5:30pm in the Windermere Ballroom, too. I will not spoil their celebration here, but please try to attend and support our Best Paper awardees at the Awards Recognition Event. We will of course announce and celebrate them during the PGC TC meeting too.
PGCTC Networking and Student Mixer Event (Tuesday at 6.30 pm in Manatee Spring 1)
First of all, please join me in thanking Shikha Redhal and Eric Bach for organizing the event. What is the event? This event is student- / young-researcher-centric. Its purpose is to provide a platform for students and early career young professionals to network with the technical experts in the field to share ideas, ongoing research, collaboration opportunities, and get answers to any questions about pressure gain combustion. The event consists of three parts: (1) An introduction of our new PGCTC members and celebration of 2024 PGCTC Best Paper Award; (2) A speed networking time, to offer attendees the opportunity to talk to industry and academic leaders in the field; and (3) A final mixer time to share interests and ideas with everyone. The event is organized for Tuesday January 7th at 6:30-8 pm in Manatee Spring 1. For more information, please see attached flyer.
PGC TC Meeting Time (for PGC TC members only) (Wednesday at 7pm in Plaza H)
Although I already sent a dedicated email to the PGC TC membership, I do want to add here that we will have our TC meeting on Wednesday at 7-9 pm EST, in Plaza H. The meeting will be in person, although a virtual option is available if you are not coming to Scitech (Zoom link sent in previous email, and as calendar invite). Please note that this meeting is for TC members only. If you are not a member but would like to explore joining the TC and attend as a guest, feel free to reach out to me.
I look forward to see you all next week.
Best,
Mirko
