Do you guys want to participate in the
2021 SSTC Student Essay Contest?I'm more then happy to lead this project but will need help from all to promote the event and select winners.
- I can create a temporary email to collect all essays (Gmail)
- Anyone who is interested can reed and score the essays using the online form (Google docs)

The AIAA Space Systems Technical Committee holds a national middle school essay contest for 7th and 8th graders every year. See the flyer below for the topic and awards this year. Please share this flyer with your local middle schools.
If your local section wants to participate this year, please notify Anthony Shao (ant.shao@gmail.com) and Erica Rodgers (erica.m.rodgersheusinkveld@nasa.gov) by emailing them your Section Name, Officer POC Name, Email, Phone number.
To participate, each section is responsible for selecting one 7th grade winner and one 8th grade winner, and notifying the SSTC Essay Contest chairs (Erica and Anthony) by the deadline. The SSTC will fund the national awards and is responsible for evaluating all the winners from the local sections and selecting the national winners. The local sections are not expected to fund local prizes but it is highly encouraged. Here is the timeline:
- April 30, 2021: National deadline for student/schools to submit their essays to their local sections officers (Section Officer POC).
- May 15, 2021: National deadline for local sections to submit their local section winners to SSTC (Anthony and Erica).
- June 1, 2021: SSTC Announcement of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners to sections/teachers/students.
- June 2021: SSTC to mail awards to winning students.
- Aerospace America to announce winners in the September 2021 issue.
