MQ-25: A First for the U.S. Navy & Boeing:  John Harnagel, MQ-25 Chief Engineer

The MQ-25 Stingray aerial refuelerwill be the U.S. Navy’s first operational carrier-based unmanned aircraft. Boeing is building MQ-25 through an $805 million contract awarded in 2018. The MQ-25 will allow for better use of combat strike fighters by extending the range of deployed Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Boeing EA-18G Growler, and Lockheed Martin F-35C aircraft. MQ-25 will also seamlessly integrate with a carrier’s catapult and launch and recovery systems.

John Harnagel is the chief engineer for the MQ-25 Stingray Engineering and Manufacturing Development program and is responsible for ensuring affordability, technical integrity, technical excellence, mission assurance and safety. Previously, John served as St. Louis site engineering directorand has led other programs through critical development phases, with roles spanning the F/A-18 E/F, EA-18G, Weapons and Supplier Management.
