A talk with Dr. Doug Griffin: Learnings and Achievements

About the Event

The talk will provide the highlights of some of the missions that Dr Doug has worked on in Europe and Australia, the plans for Skykraft.

After completing his PhD in the hypersonics group at the University of Queensland in the 1990s, Doug’s supervisor told him that in order to grow a career in the space-sector he would have to “self-exile” from Australia and look for work in either Europe or North America. The day after submitting his thesis, Doug boarded a plane to Europe where he found great opportunities to work on flag-ship ESA space programmes. While working in Europe, the right-conditions and groundwork for sovereign Australian space capability was slowly coming together and in 2015 he was able to return to Australia and continue his space career. Since returning he has worked in the UNSW Canberra Space programme and more recently has started working full time at Skykraft developing microsatellite constellations for the delivery of space-based Air Traffic Management services.
