Discussion:
NASA Voyager 1 after almost 50 years of spaceflight discovered significant-for-life-on-earth
consequences of interplay of solar particles with interstellar cosmic rays. Meanwhile, the Fly's Eye
cosmic ray observatory in western Utah observed the most energetic particle ever witnessed (the
“Oh-My-God" particle”), violating the generally accepted GZK speed limit. The Telescope Array
observatory, the descendant of the Fly's Eye, recently observed the nearly as energetic "Amaterasu"
particle. If those two discoveries were not enough, the James Webb space telescope has found what
appear to be galaxies too far away for our concepts of formation of the universe by a “big bang”.
If humanity hopes to travel beyond Earth (passing through interplanetary cosmic radiation), a
better understanding of cosmological mysteries may pace progress.
