- The CFM56 was the first commercial engine program developed by a US-French collaboration, cleared by the Nixon-Pompidou summit in 1971
- From a program which was about to be scrapped to becoming the world's most successful engine program the journey was long and hard.
- This program achieved significant advances in multiple technological areas including and grew to become the CFM Leap engine, powering the Boeing 737max exclusively and the Airbus a320 as one of the engine options.
