Bio

David Wing is a principal researcher of air traffic management in the Crew Systems and Aviation Operations Branch of NASA Langley Research Center. His NASA career spans 30 years of research in air traffic management and propulsion aerodynamics. David’s interests include airspace-user operational autonomy, cockpit technologies and procedures for airborne trajectory management, and technology roadmaps that leads to dynamic trajectory management from the flight deck. His areas of expertise include analyzing advanced operational concepts for airspace operations; developing and testing airborne automation tools in human-in-the-loop simulation experiments, flight tests, and operational trials; and transitioning NASA technology to industry for commercialization. David’s research portfolio spans current-day operational advancements to revolutionary future operations for both traditional airspace users and emerging Urban Air Mobility operators. He received his Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the George Washington University, and he holds a private pilot’s license with an instrument rating.
