Roles and Responsibilities

The following roles and responsibilities have been utilized by the Savannah Section beyond those identified in the Section Bylaws.  Interested parties can contact current chairs for more information and for details about how to become involved in section leadership and activities.

Section Chair (Elected)

  • Manages general operation of AIAA Council and associated meetings
  • Aware of activities conducted by all council members
  • Coordinates activities with national organization

Section Vice-Chair (Elected)

  • Chair-in-waiting for the following year, acts as chair when sitting chair unavailable
  • Aids in the setup and administration of meetings
  • Conducts public policy activities: Attends Congressional Visit Days and meets with local policymakers to ensure AIAA issues are recognized

Section Treasurer (Elected)

  • Maintains accurate accounting and maintains high-level overview of Section finances
  • Prepares budget and various reports

Section Secretary (Elected)

  • Takes minutes during council meetings
  • Compiles quarterly newsletter for distribution to membership from officer reports
  • Maintains Section website and calendar

Programs Chair (Appointed)

  • Plans lunch and learns on topics of interest to membership (3+ per year)
  • Plans distinguished lecturer events (2 per year)

K-12 STEM Outreach Chair (Appointed)

  • Coordinates all active STEM outreach activities
  • Maintains active involvement of membership in such activities

Membership Chair (Appointed)

  • Maintains accurate listings of current members
  • Generates suggestions for membership upgrades to the Awards Chairperson
  • Distributes newsletters, flyers, etc. to the membership

Career Enhancement Chair (Appointed)

  • Coordinates ongoing Riveting and Composites courses
  • Works with other local businesses/organizations to expand professional knowledge
  • May establish lunch and learns or courses with business/technical skills focus

Young Professional Chair (Appointed)

  • Coordinates Social Events throughout year (3+ per year)
  • May establish lunch and learns on career progression
  • Plans holiday social event

Philanthropy Chair (Appointed)

  • Coordinates philanthropic outreach events (2+ per year)

Awards Chair (Appointed)

  • Coordinates AIAA Section Scholarship Efforts
  • Provides guidance on membership promotion/advancement and compiles award packets

Prior year/Emiritus Section Chair (Previously Elected)

  • Consults council to ensure smooth transition of responsibilities
  • Provides contact continuity for external parties during section leadership transitions
