  • 1.  AIAA 2024 Year-in-Review Article - Request for Input

    Posted 29 Jul, 2024 12:37

    Hi all-

As discussed at our mid-year meeting, the call for content for our Year-In-Review (YIR) AIAA article is now open! Please help our TC highlight the many survivability-related accomplishments from the year by submitting a paragraph or two on your achievements in aircraft and/or spacecraft survivability. This is a great opportunity for you to expose some important work in the Survivability field to the general AIAA reader and beyond.

Specifically, this means there are ~1.5 months to contribute news items pertaining to Survivability issues during the 2024 calendar year.  A high-resolution digital photo for the subject is also highly desirable as well.  Please don't delay, as this ~1.5 month opportunity passes quickly.

We are looking for topics spanning (1) aircraft, (2) aerospace vehicles / spacecraft / missiles, (3) commercial aviation, (4) military and civilian aircrews and passengers, and (5) engines.  Survivability also includes "safety" in design, and not only from ballistic threats or fires. For reference, the 2023 YIR article can be viewed here: U.S. Defense Department researchers improve survivability in the air and in space

This ~1.5-month window also helps with time typically needed for clearing the submitted material through your organization's public release process.  (This can take 30+ days in some cases.)  Again, please don't delay, as this ~1.5 month opportunity passes quickly.

    Some helpful guidelines to follow:

    1. We need a paragraph of about 150-200 words per topic, preferably with an accompanying photo if available.  (The total article is 600 words, allowing us to write 3-4 paragraphs on different topics.)
    2. Activity may fall within November 2023 to November 2024, but must include an identified link to an activity in the January 2024 through 15 October 2024 calendar window.
    3. Topic should avoid names of individuals and should de-emphasize the names of companies or organizations.  This is not a publicity opportunity for organizations, companies, or individuals.
    4. While AIAA is US-based, non-US topics are solicited as well.
    5. The topics submitted must be fully cleared for publication / public release, with no claimed copyright.
    6. Your fully-cleared input is needed by EOD Friday, 30 August 2024, so we can provide it to AIAA immediately thereafter. An initial draft is due to the publishers 6 September 2024.

Please e-mail me if you have input news or questions, and please forward this to colleagues who may have an interest or a story to tell: dominic.pena@sncorp.com.

    Thank you,

Friendly reminder: inputs for the AIAA Survivability Year-in-Review article are due soon! Please - if you haven't done so already - submit your topics to me by August 30th. These submissions could simply be a paragraph with an accompanying image highlighting survivability-related achievements. We currently have 2 topics in the queue, but I would like to highlight and include at least 2 more. Please see original post for more details. Thank you!
