Hi TC,
We had a great TC meeting at SCITECH last week. I thought there was some great discussion and have some action items to follow up with.
First - Make sure you are getting these posts from ENGAGE.
- I am going to copy and paste this post to our google group,
- You should have an AIAA Survivability Technical Committee email with this same information
- If not - Check your spam filter, add the email address as a trusted source. please look into a way to receive emails
Succession plans
- Need to make sure we are working on succession plans
- All new TC members are asked to align with a TC subcommittee
- All subcommittees will be asked to have a deputy
- I will update to org chart to reflect sub committee alignment
- If willing to help in multiple committees - that is ok
Domains
- Work to align our Survivability work with a domain
- Aerospace, R&D, and Space
- Seems like an easy ask for our TC but make it crystal clear for AIAA
Subcommittees
- Overall - Thank you all for all the hard work you put in to this volunteer effort
- This sentiment was echoed at every level meeting I sat in this week
- Conferences
- Great week at SCITECH
- Presented Survivability Best Paper Award
- Had a great Session with Materials and Structures groups
- DEFENSE
- Major Hansen Will be joining the TC in May
- 1 day Survivability Course
- 1 full session of papers
- Jobin Kokkat and John Hansen volunteered to be session chairs at Defense.
- Awards
- Michael Keane takes over as subcommittee chair - need a deputy
- Championed Survivability Best Paper on Short notice
- Looking for AIAA Survivability award nominees
- This is time critical, if you have a nominee get it submitted
- Education
- Teddy Sedalor is the new subcommittee chair
- put together a great STEM activity for SCITECH outreach event
- Fell through due to funding issue
- Needs deputy
- Build a traveling STEM outreach activity
- Dan C. uploaded a Survivability 101 briefing - good start/ needs updating
- Have TAD funding
- Use it to buy experiment that is travel worthy
- ideas include: FLIR camera, Balloons for fuel bladders, Remote airplane with holes
- Teddy can lead meetings for this activity - please support
- Publications
- Mark did a great job with the Article
- Loves all the content people provided
- Would also like him to have a deputy
Actions:
- Action: Figure out how we nominate someone ad hoc / out of cycle.
- AIAA pushing us to use Engage website. Request members respond to Steve's emails, even if just with an affirmation that it was received, so that there's some discussion on there.
- Action. Align with a subcommittee right away after they join the TC. Get the new people identified under what interest they have.
- Action: Bill Schonberg volunteered as conferences committee advisor. Ask all TC members to align with a sub-committee.
- Action: Keane: Send out criteria for Survivability Award nominees and a request for submissions. Potentially include a list of past recipients.
- Action: Carrell look up directions for how to make sure reviewers show up as available to review for Defense, it's not a 1:1 overlap with SciTech.
- Action: Gather ideas for Teddy Sedalor for Education – FLIR camera, fuel bladder demo, etc. Land model airplane with holes in the wing.
- Reach out to Steve for more info on moving up to associate tech fellow. There are tech fellows within TC who can help.
- Action: Send in a Roster to AIAA Complete
Feel free to add anything that I missed
I think that is all - Thanks everyone for your work
Steve
