The M2DO lab at UC San Diego has two Post-Doctoral Researcher Openings to conduct research in developing multidisciplinary topology optimization in collaboration with NASA, Boeing, Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories.
The primary research focus is on computational mechanics (nonlinear dynamics and thermomechanics) and topology optimization for fiber composite and architected materials. The research is numerical and computational in nature hence, good programming skills are essential. Good team working skills should be demonstrated in the application. This is an opportunity to work in a lively team and advance the state-of-the-art digital engineering for design of large-scale complex systems. One project investigates thermomechanics topology optimization for fiber composite materials. The other project studies topology optimization for meso-scaled architected materials for nonlinearities and dynamics. This is part of the Center for the DREAMS activities and more details are available at http://dreams.ucsd.edu/.
Those with research experience and interests in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
• Topology optimization
• Finite Element Analysis
• Computational methods for nonlinear mechanics/dynamics
• MDO and coupled sensitivity analysis
• Level set method
• Parallel and distributed computing
• C++, Python
• Aerospace structures
• Composite materials
• Architected or meta-materials
• Multiscale mechanics
The postdoctoral researchers at M2DO lab regularly receive trainings for leadership, research, and communication skills. They are also mentored on one-to-one basis in developing a CV, independent research portfolio and tailored career development support.
Applications will be reviewed immediately and will continue until the positions are filled. Interested candidates are advised to email asap, (1) CV with a publications list (2) one representative and most relevant paper (3) names and contacts for three referees to Dr H Alicia Kim (alicia@ucsd.edu) with the subject: M2DO postdocs.
