  • 1.  High Altitude Balloon

    As a middle school teacher we were planning to launch our 5th High Altitude Balloon this spring. We are contemplating whether we should launch or hold off until fall 2023. We really want to be able to launch next April during the eclipse so we are hoping that is still going to be an option available for our students who gain so much knowledge from these experiences.

    My school district administrators have given me the go ahead to continue planning our Spring HAB launch. I am curious what members think about launching weather balloons for school experiments with the current news.

    Hello,

    I'm not sure if you're referring to the spy balloon or the amateur balloon shootdown over the Yukon, but our group is still planning on launching our balloon this spring. I'm not that worried about any issues, as long as we follow FAA Part 101.

    What concerns do you have?
