It has been 80 years since the end of the airship golden age. Having primarily been used for reconnaissance and passenger travel, the airship had been reduced to the role of airborne advertising billboard. However, in recent years there has been a renewed interest in airships and the energy efficiencies they can bring to both civilian and military applications. Mr. Mitchell will be discussing the basics of airship design, a historical perspective on airship employment, current planned airship developments as well as future ISR and mass cargo lift concepts.
