Eastward moving convections over the Indian Ocean called Madden-Julian  Oscillations (MJO) dictate the strength and location of rainfall in the tropics. Accurate  characterization of MJO is crucial for understanding climate processes and regional variability.  Modern weather data assimilation techniques statistically blend weather observations and initial conditions with a predictive weather model and result in errors that are minimized relative to the model or observations.  In a case study over the Indian Ocean, we will examine how cloud and precipitable water observations are fused with a predictive model to lower the uncertainties in MJO prediction and provide model parameter estimates.  MJO data assimilation results are validated using Daily MJO Indices produced by the National and Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA).  Data assimilation is a powerful statistical tool that can facilitate planning efforts across disciplines
