Hi All,
I have recently completed my coursework for a B.E. in Aerospace Engineering. My main professional interests are in the areas of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, and am keen on pursuing a career in one or both of those areas.
I have been applying to a number of positions, but even so, I know that the competition in these fields is fairly fierce, with openings being few and far between. I have also been led to believe that simply responding to job advertisements isn't necessarily the best way of landing a job and that developing connections will likely yield better results.
Bearing the above in mind, I have a few questions:
- Does anyone have any good general strategies for developing professional connections within the fields of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics? I have tried looking people up on LinkedIn (and here) and emailing them, with very limited success. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated!
- In the event that opportunities within the aerospace industry prove to be too elusive, is it perhaps worthwhile pursuing fluid mechanics related jobs outside of the aerospace industry (e.g. building-wind interaction analysis, hydrodynamics, etc...), or would that pigeonhole me outside of the aerospace world?
- I have noticed a fair few 'entry-level' jobs requiring some ten years of experience. Is this typical?
I have attached a copy of my resume, as well as my <g class="gr_ gr_998 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="998" data-gr-id="998">honours</g>/senior thesis for reference.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
