  • Bombardier: Over 40 Years of Aerodynamics and Technology Innovation

Please join the AIAA Niagara Frontier Section next Wednesday when Dr. Fassi Kafyeke discusses the Bombardier approach to aerodynamic design and highlights design challenges and innovations on a number of their aircraft: the Global Express, Challenger 300, CRJ 700, 900 and 1000, CSeries single-aisle airliner and the Global 7500. The talk will show that these 40+ years have seen the development of an unprecedented aerodynamic design capability at Bombardier, fueled by progress in computer technology and a wide array of collaborations with researchers across Canada and the world.

Dr. Kafyeke has an Aerospace Engineering Master’s degree from Université de Liège, a Master’s degree (Air Transport Engineering) from the Cranfield Institute of Technology and a PhD (Aerodynamics) from École Polytechnique de Montréal. He joined Bombardier in 1982.  In 1996 he became Chief of Advanced Aerodynamics, responsible for the design and testing for all Business Jets, Regional jets and the CSeries airliner.  In 2007 he became Director of Strategic Technology and from 2015 to 2021 was a Senior Director and a member of the Bombardier Product Development Engineering Leadership team, responsible for technology innovation, product innovation and Eco-design.  He is a recipient of the Grand Prix d’Excellence de l’Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec and a past president of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI).
