My name is Hsun Chao, a third-year PhD student from School of Aeronautics and Astronautics Purdue University. I'm reaching out because we are running a crowdfunding campaign and need your help. We recently won the NASA University Student research Challenge (USRC) project to work on a research aimed at developing a new blockchain-inspired communication framework for UAVs in dense urban air space (see below for more details). As per one of grant requirements, we are running a crowdfunding campaign to raise one third of the direct cost. We are reaching out to raise awareness of this research project and search for opinions about what potential challenges about this project are.

We would like to talk with anyone in person. So, we will present our preliminary research results in 2018 AIAA Aviation conference in Atlanta, GA. Our presentation schedule is from 3:00pm - 3:30pm on Tuesday (6/26) in Embassy D. Also, we will share a booth with NASA in the exhibition. Please come and visit us if you would like to learn more about this research.

    Project description:

The number of small UAV operations are expected to increase dramatically in the near future in metropolitan areas to provide a broad range of services from terrain surveillance to freight delivery. However, the skyscrapers in these metropolitan areas make the operation of detect-and-avoid system difficult by blocking the line of vision and data transmission signals. In this project, we propose a UAV Traffic Information Exchange Network (UAV-TIEN) system to create data links in an efficient and secure fashion. UAV-TIEN uses a blockchain-inspired data transmission mechanism to ensure data transmission security and create a flight data transmission network, which is robust against signal blocking.
