When: Oct 14, 2020 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM (ET)

Abstract:
Many professional societies are supporting initiatives to improve equity, diversity, and inclusion in their disciplines. Last year, the American Physical Society began an innovative project to build the capacity of change agents in academic departments, national laboratories, and scientific collaborations to begin transforming the profession from the inside out. The Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Alliance (APS-IDEA) has grown in one year from a small pilot project into a network of nearly 100 teams and 1200 practitioners committed to equitable change and organizational learning. Utilizing research-based transformational methods from the social sciences, and embedding equity through shared leadership of teams, this initiative seeks within ten years to establish a thriving community of transformation and to shift the culture in participating organizations starting with the IDEA teams. This talk will summarize the project theory of change and compare it with similar efforts in other disciplines by one of its founders.
