Space Logistics (1960-2060): Enabling the Ultimate Frontier

Date & Time: October 27th, 2023, 12:00-1:00 pm EST, University of Main

The AIAA New England Section is organizing an expert webinar session . Come and listen to Dr Olivier de Weck on space logistics, the technology and the fun involved.

Starting with the International Geophysical Year in 1957 the ultimate frontier for human exploration and expansion switched from Antarctica to outer space. In this seminar I will review the key concepts, history, state-of-the art and future of space logistics. The key method discussed will be multi-commodity network flow analysis which is applicable to both terrestrial and interplanetary supply chains. With the help of the SpaceNet discrete event simulation framework we will explore different scenarios including resupply of ISS, exploration of the lunar South Pole, which is being pursued by the Artemis program, as well as future hybrid human-robotic exploration of Mars. We will conclude by discussing Orbital Reef, a joint effort by Blue Origin and MIT to develop and launch a new commercial space station starting in 2026.

Join us to hear from Dr Olivier de Weck
