  • AIAA NEW ENGLAND WEBINAR- AERODYNAMIC NOISE OF DRONES AND AIR TAXIS

The AIAA New England Section is organizing an expert webinar session . Come and listen to Prof Seongkyu Lee, on the aerodynamic noise in Drones and air taxis

This presentation provides an overview of aerodynamic noise related to drones and urban air mobility (UAM) aircraft, with an emphasis on recent advancements in noise prediction and reduction techniques. UAM, also known as air taxi services, promises to revolutionize urban transportation. However, noise pollution and public acceptance stand as significant obstacles to the widespread adoption of this groundbreaking transportation system. The presentation will begin with an exploration of the various sources of rotor aerodynamic noise, including tonal noise, blade-vortex-interaction (BVI) noise, and broadband noise. Following this introduction, Prof Lee will outline the methodologies used to predict rotor noise and showcase specific examples of noise predictions. Furthermore, Prof Lee will discuss and demonstrate innovative strategies for minimizing UAM aircraft noise, a vital consideration for the industry’s future growth. To conclude, the presentation will highlight promising avenues for future research in UAM noise, underscoring the ongoing need for innovation and exploration in this dynamic and emerging field.
