We'd like to welcome you to participate in this year's AIAA Space Systems Technical Committee middle school essay contest.
This year's topic asks students to find images of astronomical objects from different times in history and make inferences on the development of imaging technology. The essay prompt is intentionally descriptive, with a few steps to guide students in thinking about this topic. We hope that this encourages more independent and creative responses. We ask that students include their selected images inline with their essay text and submit it as one document. Please find more details in the poster attached (pdf and Word document versions).
Deadlines
The contest deadlines have been moved out by two weeks to retain the regular contest timeline. Key Deadlines: May 1st (local contest) and May 15th (national contest)
Online Submission and Judging
We plan to continue using the online essay submission portal for the national contest. Local sections may conduct local contest judging in their preferred manner, and then submit the local winners to the national contest through the online submission form.  More details will follow next month.
Please note that this contest disallows the use of AI tools for text generation or language improvement. We plan to run checks on the national contest submissions and will follow up with more information about this.
