Please join us this month when Frank Cardullo, Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Binghamton, discusses over one hundred years of progress in flight simulation, from the simple mechanical devices developed shortly after the first aircraft, to the Apollo Mission Simulators we heard about last month and finally the incredibly high fidelity simulators of today. His talk will include the science and technology behind modern flight simulators, which are so effective that the first flight of a new copilot at major airline in an actual aircraft is a scheduled flight with passengers.
Frank Cardullo has worked on flight simulation for over fifty years in both industry and academia and continues to conduct research in how humans control complex systems such as aircraft and ground vehicles to this day. He is the author of over eighty technical publications and the recipient of the AIAA De Florez Award for Flight Simulation and Training. Professor Cardullo has lectured at thirteen different universities and research institutes in the US, Europe and Asia, and in January 2018 offered his annual week-long short course in flight simulation for the 33rd and final year.
