  • Nominations Open for Section Council (Deadline: April 12)

    The AIAA Northwest Florida Section seeks nominees for all Council positions (position descriptions are at the end of the announcement):

    These are great leadership development opportunities. Those elected will be responsible for planning and executing actions and activities sponsored by the Section.  

    Nominations are due Friday, April 12. Self-nominations are not permitted. Nominees must be AIAA members (students and educators are allowed, too!) and in the Section. Nominees may only be nominated for one position.

    The voting window is planned for Monday, April 15 to Monday, May 6. New council members will be installed at the Section Banquet tentatively planned for the evening of Tuesday, May 14 at Lulu's in Destin.

    POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

    The Chair shall be the chief executive officer of the Section. The Chair shall be a voting member of all committees, except for those noted in these bylaws. The Chair shall preside at all meetings and functions with outside agencies. The Chair shall make an annual report through the annual report process as defined by READ, submitted to the appropriate Regional Director of AIAA and the AIAA Staff Liaison on or before the due date specified in the READ policies and procedures.

    The Vice Chair shall act in the place of the Chair in any case of the Chair's inability to act. The Vice Chair shall transact, at the direction of the Chair, any business that could be within the power of the Chair to transact.

    The Secretary shall maintain the minutes of the meetings of the Section and shall be the custodian of all Section records not specially assigned to others. The Secretary shall keep a full and correct list of the membership and addresses of the members. The Secretary shall submit a copy of the minutes of all meetings of the Section to the Regional Director and the applicable Staff Liaison.

    The Treasurer shall keep an accurate record of all funds received and disbursed. The Treasurer shall make all required financial reports and such expenditures as may be authorized by the Section Council or by the bylaws of AIAA as implemented under Article VIII of these bylaws.

    The Program Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall oversee the planning, organization, and execution of all Section meetings.

    The Technical Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for bringing technical activities to the Section.

    The Membership Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for the Section membership promotion and retention programs.

    The Career Enhancement/Young Professionals Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for the planning and implementing of programs and activities that can assist an engineer's career. Although these programs and activities are  intended for the entire Section membership, special emphasis shall be to attract and involve younger members.

    The Education/Pre-College Outreach Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for the planning and implementing of educational programs and activities for the Section. He/she shall be responsible for interaction with local schools through the planning and implementing of programs and activities to promote the science and engineering professions.

    The Honors & Awards Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for promoting and recognizing excellence within the Section through local, regional and national recognition.

    The Public Policy Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for Section public policy activities, speakers bureaus, interface with public officials, and contact the Institute National Public Policy Officer.

    The Communications Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for maintaining the Section's website and social media presence.
