  • A Non-AIAA Event of Interest to AIAA Members: "Night Flying", with Jay Mason, ATP and CFI

    Topic:
What night flying preparation can teach you about daytime flying

    Date and Time:
    Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 6:30 P.M.

    Location:
    Aviation Facilities, Inc
    4119 West Commonwealth Ave
    Fullerton, CA 92833

    Description:
Flying is different at night.  From planning, through preparation, physiology, procedures, risk identification and mitigation, to completing your logbook afterward, things are very different when the sun goes down.  Yet, many of the same issues in play also have a role in daytime flying, and exploring them a bit can help make your flying safer and less stressful, even in the bright light of day.

Join Jay Mason, ATP and CFI, as he sheds some daylight on night flying techniques, and how they can illuminate your pilot skill set.  Perhaps the knowledge you'll gain may inspire you to join Jay flying on the back side of the clock, as he often does commuting to and from his "day job", which more often than not, is actually a night job!

  • A NON AIAA EVENT OF INTEREST TO AIAA MEMBERS: "IMC CLUB - IFR FLIGHT SCENARIOS"

    Topic:
IMC CLUB - IFR FLIGHT SCENARIOS - Discussion with Jay Steffenhagen

    Date and Time:
    Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 at 7:00 P.M.

    Location:
    Irvine Ranch Water District HQ
    15500 Sand Canyon Ave
    Community Conference Room
    Irvine, CA 92618

    Description:
For our Sept EAA Chapter 92 meeting, join us for the rollout of a new meeting program format: the IMC Club.  The idea is to present one or more IFR flight scenarios to the group for discussion, under the guidance of a flight instructor.  The scenarios are presented as a short video, and are designed to confront the IFR pilot with making difficult decisions on how / whether to initiate or continue the flight, and how to resolve difficult situations.

There are no right or wrong answers, but the group gets to define and evaluate the risks and sort out the best way to proceed.
