Good afternoon all,
I'm the Region V Deputy Director - Education, helping prepare for the Region V Student Paper Conference. This year's conference will be hosted by the AIAA student branch at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) 8-9 April. I need your help!
AIAA (college) student members from across Region V will submit a written paper and give an oral presentation on their engineering research or design work. Each paper and presentation will be evaluated, and the student with the highest score in each category -- Undergraduate Research, Master's Research, Team Research -- will win a trip to the International Student Paper Conference at SciTech 2023!
Could you volunteer your time to serve as an Oral Judge on Friday, April 8th and/or Saturday, April 9th? I need to have three judges per paper session, with two sessions going in parallel Friday morning, Friday afternoon, and Saturday morning. So I'll need six judges for Friday morning, six for Friday afternoon, and six for Saturday morning. You could volunteer to help with one, two, or all three sessions.
This is a small way for AIAA members to "pay forward" the mentoring and guidance we've received from professionals and educators in our field. For students, the highlight of the conference is their opportunities to interact with the professional membership of their future career field; and you're really going to enjoy seeing the research and design presentations by these very impressive young engineers. And if you haven't visited, the UCCS campus is beautiful!
If you're going to be in town for the Space Symposium earlier that week, perhaps you could consider adding a day or two to your trip to participate. If your employer offers opportunities for STEM outreach/community service, I'd be happy to send a letter describing this volunteer opportunity for approval.
