  • Doug Pearson Talk About Shooting Up a Satellite at UTSI Nov 1

The Tennessee Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics will have a luncheon meeting Thursday November 1 at the
University of Tennessee Space Institute Cafeteria. There will be a
presentation by Mr. Doug Pearson on the flight test of the ASM-135
    anti-satellite missile.

In September 1985 Maj. Doug Pearson flew above the Pacific Ocean, launched
the ASM-135 from his F-15's wing, and successfully destroyed the Air Force's
Solwind satellite (which was at life's end and at 326 miles altitude). In
addition to being the Air Force's only bona-fide "satellite-killing pilot,"
Mr. Pearson is the Deputy General Manager of National Aerospace Solutions, a
retired Major General of the Air Force having commanded the Flight Test
Center, and a former Lockheed-Martin vice president in charge of F-35 flight
testing. He is an aerospace engineering graduate of Texas A&M University.

The event will begin at 11:30 am in the "under-the-balcony" area of the
cafeteria. Lunch is available via the cafeteria line. Mr. Pearson's
presentation will begin at 12:00. For more information, please contact the
AIAA Tennessee Section Chair (Joe Wehrmeyer) at 931-454-4345 or
