Calling All Oregon and SW Washington Aerospace Professionals

  • 1.  Calling All Oregon and SW Washington Aerospace Professionals

I would like to announce that Portland State University Student Branch of AIAA will be hosting the first annual "Oregon Aerospace Expo: Opportunities in Aerospace" in the PSU Engineering Building on September 28th this year. The goal of this event is to promote awareness of the industry and highlight the challenges and opportunities that Oregonians and SW Washingtonians may be able to help solve by pursuing careers or even founding companies in the industry. We also want to promote Oregon graduates as quality talent for the industry, and so we also invite potential partners from other educational institutions to join us in this project.

We have two speakers who have agreed to come to talk: Dan Dumbacher of AIAA, and Heather Bulk of SAS. We would also like to have additional speakers from Oregon who can come and talk about issues/opportunities/developments that are pertinent to you, your company, or the industry. Is anyone interested in speaking or volunteering? We also welcome anyone from the greater PNW region who is interested in seeing the industry grow.

My team is working on the schedule and the cost breakdown structure, and will soon call for tabling/exhibition opportunities as well!

Here are some topics we would like to see covered (though we are open to suggestion at this point):
    • Innovation & Research
    • The workforce of the Future
    • Human Spaceflight (in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, and to highlight the coming new era)
    • History of Aerospace and Spaceflight (especially with regard to contributions from Oregon individuals/companies)
    • Space Economics & Policy
    • *Other (opportunities within the industry, or to improve within the industry such as in business practices, supply chain management, etc)
